The solution to pay for parking via the Orange customer mobile bill
The Parking offer is a solution aimed at local authorities allowing a car driver to pay for parking spaces via payment through the Orange bill:
- either by sending an SMS to a short code
- or by using in-app payment by bill

How does it work ?
For its on-street parking payment offer, Orange uses the SMS+ solution (with its 5-digit short codes) as well as the Internet+ Mobile solution (for in-app payment).
For SMS payment:
- the car driver sends their registration by SMS to a 5-digit short code, indicated on the city’s parking machines. They receive an SMS confirmation on their phone, indicating that payment will be debited on their next mobile bill.
For in-app payment:
- the car driver uses their parking app to enter their registration before paying for their ticket, choosing Orange bill payment as the payment method. The ticket is loaded to the app, and the amount charged on the next operator bill.
Ticket inspectors
The offer includes an inspection system (accessible from a smartphone/PDA + 1 app) made available to local street parking ticket inspectors. This allows them to enter the registration number to check whether the vehicle owner has paid for their parking.
The ticket inspector’s equipment can be combined with additional features, like electronic fines.
The customer journey
- the car driver sends their registration by SMS to a short code
- they receive payment confirmation: the parking is paid
- the message they receive acts as a ticket
- an SMS alert is sent just before the end of the parking time, to extend it if needed
- the parking payment is charged to the Orange mobile bill
Sign up to Parking
- Reserve your 5-digit short code with Af2m (www.af2m.org)
- Sign a contract with each mobile operator to activate your code and connect to their SMS sending platform
NB: You can subcontract this part to a technical service provider already connected to these platforms.
Financial risk and management are assumed by the operators for:
- billing,
- reimbursements,
- recovery.
